How it works

An ROI figure is worth only as much as its assumptions, so all of them are here. Machine capabilities are quoted from 3devo's published specification, and filament prices are European market medians stated with the number of stores and listings behind each.

The feedstock prices are different, and you should treat them differently. They are indicative placeholders, not quotations. What a kilo of pellets, regrind or powder actually costs depends on the supplier, the grade, the region and how much you order — published prices for the same polymer span more than tenfold, from tonne-scale resin to small compounded bags. Nobody can give you a single honest number for that, so we have not pretended to. It is also the field that moves the result more than anything else on this page, which makes replacing it with your own quote the first thing worth doing — and the thing most worth asking us about.

What the model does not count

These are real reasons customers move production in-house, and none of them is in the arithmetic above — so treat the payback figure as the floor of the case rather than the whole of it.

Why It Matters
Waste you already pay to remove
MJF and SLS powder, regrind and failed prints are a disposal cost today. Feeding them into the machine replaces a bought kilo and deletes a disposal charge, but the numbers are specific to your waste stream and your contractor.
Supply security
A material on allocation, discontinued, or on a twelve-week lead time has a cost that only shows up when a line stops.
Filament nobody sells you
Custom blends, filled compounds, colour matching and validation grades have no market price to compare against, because you cannot buy them.
Freight, duty and stockholding
Extruding on site removes inbound freight on finished filament and the working capital tied up in spools on a shelf.
Freight and end-of-life emissions
The CO₂ figure above counts only the virgin polymer you avoid making, less the electricity you use. The freight of imported filament, and the emissions from incinerating or landfilling the waste you divert instead, sit on top of it — 3devo's methodology leaves both out to stay conservative, so the real saving is larger than shown.
